When you think of New York, what comes to mind? For some, it might be the congestion. For others, maybe it’s the city that never sleeps. Everyone would agree though that the picture of an arm raised on any corner, on every street, hailing the word ‘Taxi!’ is common place in New York. And magically, there it was, ready to whisk someone off to wherever and whenever they wanted to go.

But in Grand Bay-Westfield? - not so much.

And then last December Sandra and Dwayne Blanchard wanted to change all that and since the garage then was in the process of closing, they saw it as the perfect opportunity to try and start a Taxi company first. Now, not yet one year later, they are the proprietors of a flourishing business with three vehicles working seven days a week, 24 hours a day - and the adjacent Grand Bay Car Care to boot!

“The greatest thing I see” remarks Dwayne, “is the freedom and independence many of our customers experience. No more depending on friends and family for rides in and about town, no feeling rushed to get shopping done for fear of making a son or daughter wait for them. Now people can take their time, stop and talk to people they meet, linger over a coffee.”

“We deliver everthing from packages to coffee drops to pizza. We pick-up customers from out in Browns Flats, Clarendon, Wirral. We run courier for businesses to out-of-town destinations. We have some retired fellows help out with driving in the evenings. Plus we’re seeing more customers taking the high road and accepting responsibility with the option of calling a local cab after having consumed alcohol.”

And since we’re on the threshold of the most ‘socially happiest time of the year’ - that’s not a bad thing at all.

Dwayne’s mechanical experience and Sandra’s business savvy are a perfect blend servicing our citizens young and old. Sandra has lived in the area for 26 years and Dwayne for the last nine years until the two met and have been married for five years now - partners in life and partners in business. They are the newest members to the Chamber seeing the worth in networking with associate business members and doing what they can to reinforce community spirit - their seats have barely been warmed since launching their businesses and already they’ve done what they can by donating their Car Care services for different local fundraising events.

Keep your eyes on this growing business - in other words - “Follow that cab!” (Doesn’t everyone want the thrill of saying that just once in their life?!)
