Public Advisory Issued: April 22, 2009 Town officials in Grand Bay-Westfield, in coordination with our EMO and New Brunswick EMO continue to actively monitor the St. John and Nerepis Rivers and their potential impact on our residents. To ensure the safety of our residents, ongoing checks of the affected areas are being carried out by Municipal Operations. For information on water levels, boil water advisories, road
closures, etc. please go to the NB EMO River Watch website at
www.gnb.ca/public/Riverwatch
or call 1-888-561-4048. Should flooding occur residents who do not live in the affected areas are asked to stay away to relieve congestion and to permit emergency crews space to attend to the situation. Lift station on Riverside Park and one grinder pump on Hazel Street may be affected or shut down. Residents living just outside the flooded areas may experience some slowness to the sewerage system. Although the water level has dropped somewhat, the water levels may rise quickly over the next few weeks depending upon the amount of rain fall and the snow melt in the northern part of the Province. If warranted, streets may be closed and power disconnected to the affected homes. EMO advises persons to monitor water levels and visit the the Government Web Site. For additional information please call the Town Office at
738-6404. |
