FROM THE DESK OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH OFFICE
Our response to many calls and concerns regarding a recently released criminal in our community:  When a criminal is released from the prison system, Corrections Canada provides a package to the police in the community where the offender is being released.  They do not inform the police of all released offenders, only those who they feel pose a risk to the community.  Once the police receive the package, consultation with Parole Services, police members and community boards, if they are in place, determines whether or not the public is notified.  In this particular case, the members at the GBW Post have been given the documentation, shown his picture and made aware of the situation.

WHAT'S THE RCMP NUMBER, AGAIN?
Call the RCMP anytime at 757-1020 to report all non-emergency activities that you feel need their attention.  Please, don't hesitate and don't forget.

  RECENT CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES
In recent weeks, the following incidents were reported to the RCMP. Several seniors in our community received phone calls requesting personal and financial information.  The callers identified themselves as bank employees or investors.  The RCMP is advising not to give out any information over the phone.  The RCMP also received calls concerning youths on the train tracks attempting to damage the tracks for a possible derailment.  Please contact the RCMP if you see any suspicious people on the tracks.  The RCMP would like to wish everyone a fun and safe Halloween on the 31st of October.

HEADING SOUTH FOR THE WINTER?
Several precautions should be taken when you leave your home uninhabited for an extended period of time.  Notify your block captain and/or the RCMP.  Ask them to check on your property regularly and leave them a number where you can be reached.  Stop newspaper deliveries.  Ask your neighbours to keep an eye on your home, pick up mail and flyers and to occasionally park their car in your driveway.  You should have your driveway ploughed.  Consult with your insurance agent to see if they have any requirements.

SUPPORT NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Of course, we are a volunteer group of neighbours within the community dedicated to helping one another keep our neighbourhood safe.  You may have noticed a Neighbourhood Watch Street Sign in your area.  We need to place several more.  In order to raise the funds for the signs, we are selling "Peeler Discount Cards."  These handy pocket cards have several "buy-one, get-one-free" coupons for area restaurants and may be used by anyone at anytime.  Please support the Watch and ask your Block Captain for a Peeler Card.
