  HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Please be mindful of the youngsters trick-or-treating around your neighbourhood this Halloween.  While driving, take into consideration that many children may be wearing costumes that restrict their vision and that their costumes may not be visible at night.

CALL TRACE *57
Call Trace is a service provided by NBTel that helps protect you and your family from troubling calls.  If you receive an upsetting call, hang up, then immediately pick up the receiver.  After you hear the dial tone, press *57.  A recorded voice message will confirm that the call has been traced.  To take legal action against the caller, contact the RCMP at 757-1020.  Call Trace should only be used in serious circumstances.  Each time you use Call Trace there is a $5 charge, to maximum of $10 per month.

  IS YOUR HOUSE NUMBER IN PLAIN VIEW AND VISIBLE AT NIGHT?
If the answer is yes, then you can rest assured that you have made it easier for emergency rescue teams to find your home.  Please mention the signs to your neighbours. Help them decide where to post their number sign.
If the answer is no, then you should read the reminder below from the volunteer fire/rescue department regarding civic numbering.  Blue reflective signs may be ordered and picked up at the Westfield Country Store.  The cost is $8.00 for one and $15.00 for two. If you choose not to post a blue reflective number sign on your house, you should post a number sign that is noticeable.

GET THE LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS
When you see suspicious activity involving vehicles, moving or parked, please do not hesitate to alert the RCMP at 757-1020.  You should provide them with a description of the activity and the vehicle - the most important detail being the license plate.  The RCMP will be happy to investigate the vehicle and its owner.

VIDEOS AVAILABLE
Video cassettes dealing with crime prevention, drug abuse education, firearms safety, general safety and children’s topics may be borrowed free-of-charge from the RCMP.  Please contact your block captain for details.

9-1-1 EMERGENCY SERVICES CAN’T HELP YOU IF THEY CAN’T FIND YOU!

Please display your civic address number properly:

In a position of high, year-round visibility (consider winter conditions when placing the number);

On the same side of the road as the building to which the number applies;

In a colour that contrasts with the building, mailbox or signpost to which the number is attached…reflective numbers are best;

At least 1.2 meters (4 feet) off the ground, if placed on a civic number signpost or mailbox.  The mailbox should be used only if it is on the same side of the road as your home.  If the number is on a signpost, then the post should be placed where the driveway meets the road.  Never attach a civic number to road signs, telephone or “hydro” poles;

In a location that is visible to vehicles travelling in either direction or facing directly where it can be seen from the road;

In regular numbers (i.e. 42), not words or roman numerals;

In a size large enough to be seen easily from the road.

If the number is located on a signpost or a building within 15 meters (50 feet) from the roadway, it should be at least 65 millimeters (2.5 inches) in height;

If the number is located on a building 15 meters or farther from the roadway, it should be not less than 100 millimeters (4 inches) in height.

DISPLAY YOUR CIVIC NUMBER…YOUR LIFE MIGHT DEPEND ON IT!
