Schedule of Events for Pre-Kindergarten Children and their Parents/Guardians Please find listed below a schedule of pre-kindergarten events in which you and your child are invited to attend. You are encouraged to participate in all of the planned activities as the programming has been designed to ensure your child has a pleasant transition from home to school. As each event draws near you will receive reminders or invitations from your community/neighbourhood school to attend. We look forward to meeting with you and your child as we work together toward a successful entry into Kindergarten. Save Time! This year you may fill out the school entry permit and the school information form before you visit your community/neighbourhood school to register your child for Kindergarten. Print both forms, complete and bring to your community/ neighbourhood school along with your child’s medicare card, birth certificate and record of immunization. October – Kindergarten Registration – Children born in 2006 will start school in September, 2011. Register at your community/neighbourhood school during regular school hours Tuesday, October 12th- Friday, October15th. Evening Registration –

School District 08 building located at 490 Woodward Avenue
from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Don’t forget your documents.
October/November – Kick-Off to Kindergarten Parents are invited to their community/neighbourhood school to listen to an information session regarding pre-kindergarten events including the Early Years Evaluation – Direct Assessment – EYE-DA. What is the EYE-DA? The EYE-DA is an assessment given to measure a child’s Kindergarten readiness skills. All children in the Province of New Brunswick entering Kindergarten in September 2011 will participate in this assessment. December – “Welcome to School” Event Parents and children are invited to attend an exciting and interactive event at their community/neighbourhood school. Children and parents will participate in learning centres that demonstrate school readiness skills, listen to stories, have a snack and meet the kindergarten teachers from your school. At the end of the session each child will receive a “Welcome to Kindergarten” bag filled with materials to help him/her be ready for Kindergarten.
January/February – Early Years Evaluation – Direct Assessment- EYE-DA Each child will receive a specific day and time to attend the EYE-DA session. You will schedule an appointment when you register your child for school. The event will take place at your community/neighbourhood school. May – Kindergarten Orientation Day Your child will be invited to visit a Kindergarten classroom. The children will participate in Kindergarten activities at their community/neighbourhood school and discover what a Kindergarten classroom is all about. Parents will participate in school workshops given by literacy mentors, guidance counselors, nutrition consultants and/or public health specialists. Also at this time children and parents will be given a bus tour and a bus safety discussion with a member from the District 8 Transportation team. May/June – School Readiness Programs School Readiness programs will take place to assist pre-kindergarten children with school readiness skills. Dates and locations are yet to be determined.
