The
letter below was recently received by Mayor Grace Losier from the 1st
Westfield Scouts. It is being shared with the public to highlight
the amount of litter being placed on our Walking Trail. “Your Worship: As per our discussion on November 11, 2011, the 1st Westfield Scout Troop (joined by a couple of Beavers) completed a garbage sweep heading towards the walking section of the Trans Canada Trail through Grand Bay-Westfield on November 12th. We had hoped to cover a stretch of trail starting at the South end and working our way towards the other end of Woolastook, unfortunately, we were overwhelmed before we made it that far. We had parked a few vehicles in the parking area next to where the caboose was located. We had almost a full bag prior to crossing the street. The area closer to the road was better, however, the East side of the fence (closer to the tracks) had some more opportunity ;) We only made our way into the trail proper approximately 100 meters. We were able to collect over 10 bags of garbage (what we couldn't fit in the vehicles we left by the garbage cans - hopefully it won't be too much trouble). We also collected a signpost, bicycle wheel, a number of signs among the interesting discoveries. We hope to have helped make our town a little better and I know that the Scouts have learned some more about what it means to be part of the community, as well as why you shouldn't litter! At your service, 1st
Westfield Scouts” Grand
Bay-Westfield
Council extends a very
special thank you to the 1st
Westfield Scouts and to all other groups who have provided this
community service to our Town. Residents and businesses are
encouraged to make every effort to eliminate littering in our
community in order to keep Grand Bay-Westfield BEAUTIFUL! |
