The Town of Grand Bay-Westfield wishes to inform residents that 2009-2014 Snow Control Service is being provided on a contract basis by Morin Curbing Inc. At the commencement of a storm salt spreaders will place salt on the hills and at intersections; snow control operations begin when snow accumulation reaches 2" (4 cm). Snow control operations proceed simultaneously from the following locations:
The Town Traffic By-law has the following regulations to assist Snow Control Service: No person shall park a motor vehicle on the streets of the Town between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 7:00 am where such parking would impede snowplowing and snow removal.
No person shall park a vehicle within an area so designated in front of or adjacent to the entrance of Fire Station No. 1 in the Community Centrum Building on Allan Street or in front of the vehicle doors at Fire Station No. 2, Nerepis Road. No person shall place snow or ice upon any street, sidewalk, or square in such manner that impedes or is likely to impede movement of traffic or pedestrians. Parking on Murray Street may impede response times for emergency vehicles when responding to the seniors complex during winter storms. RESIDENTS MAY CONTACT MORIN CURBING INC. AT 738-2230 WITH INQUIRIES, REQUESTS, AND CONCERNS ABOUT SNOW CONTROL SERVICE. WINTER SNOW AND ICE CONTROL OPERATIONAL CHANGE In
previous years mainly sand/salt mix has been used on roads. Starting
this year new controls are being implemented to ensure product is
applied at the right time, in the right place, and in the right
amount to protect the environment, motorists, and pedestrians. Except
during extremely cold temperatures, salt will be applied to
melt snow and ice. Residents are accustomed to seeing sand on the
roads, as sand has no chemical properties to melt snow and ice, sand
will only be used when road temperatures are below the working
temperature for salt. As such residents should not expect to see
sand on the roads for every storm. |
