February 16, 2010 For immediate release Greater Saint John will have the opportunity to join in the Olympic spirit this coming weekend, Feb 19 – 21, 2010. The 2nd annual Winterfest is a weekend-long festival saluting the 2010 Olympics with everything from skating parties and snowshoeing to bartender Olympics. New to the regional winter festival this year is Grand Bay-Westfield. “It’s an opportunity to showcase our region as a great winter destination to our own citizens as well as visitors,” says Mayor Grace Losier. “We often take for granted what is in our own backyard. We’ve got great recreational and sport facilities and beautiful parks for year-round enjoyment, not to mention the rivers that unite our communities.” Residents are encouraged to enjoy the activities in every community, from the outdoor ‘Skating with the Stars’ sound and light skate party at Lily Lake on Friday evening; ice fishing in Renforth; a Snowbath High School Challenge and community skate with local band Bigg Medicine in Quispamsis; and children’s local favourite Zany Lane show in Grand Bay-Westfield. The events are sponsored by the towns of Grand Bay-Westfield, Rothesay, Quispamsis, the City of Saint John, and Country 94 and The Wave. A complete schedule of events can be found on www.saintjohn.ca and in Friday, Feb. 19th edition of [here]. Reminder: Photo opportunity on Tuesday, February 16th at 11 a.m. at the Quispamsis Arts & Culture Park. Mayors from the four participating communities of Winterfest will pose in front of the Inukshuk. Media
